Promoting an Existing Podcast

Updated: Dec 10, 2021

I reflect on my experience in creating a promotional edit for an already existing podcast, The H3H3 Podcast: Featuring Post Malone.

For this project, I was given the task to create a promotional edit for the already existing podcast, The H3H3 Podcast: Featuring Post Malone. The promotional edit involved myself creating a flyer, as well as highlighting premium features of the podcast to peak the audiences' interest and encourage them to listen.

“Trying to promote an already existing product can be challenging to execute, especially when having to keep the interest of the audience in mind.”

I found that creating this promotional edit for the podcast was challenging at times as I had to consider what kind of audience the podcast had and how they had catered to them. Something that another audience likes may not be the same for another, and I had to do a bit of research into the podcast and watch some of the content before handling the promotion material.

During the creation

I had a lot of fun recording the promotional material for the podcast because I was able to try something new and come out of my comfort zone. I can be soft spoken at times, and promoting the podcast and recording my own voice allowed me to open myself up and I felt an increase in confidence.

In picking out sound bites from podcast for the promotional edit, I tried my best to pick soundbites that were attention grabbing. This took a lot of time as I had to sit through the entire two hour podcast and ensure that I was grabbing the essential pieces for the edit.

The Editing Period

When it came down to editing, I found that it was a bit difficult to keep within the time frame of the promotional edit. This was because there were so many great parts of the podcast that I wanted to highlight, but I only had to pick three essential topics. Cutting and putting sound bits together came very familiar to me as I had done video and audio editing before in a previous class as well as within my own internship. The experience was pleasant and I did not have too much trouble with understanding the software.

Overall

The experience was a very interesting one, as I have never done a project like this before. I was able to learn a lot of different tricks like how to merge audio and fade in/out which I found to be very valuable. I am happy that I was able to properly promote a podcast through my own creative liberty. It also made me happy that my professor had faith in us to edit and create pretty much how we saw best fit. I can see myself continue to use what I have learned in this class in my daily life from here on forward.
