I summarize my initial experience in the creation and editing of the first episode of Harness Your Pen Podcast: Featuring Paul Rabinowitz.
When given the task to create a podcast, the first thing that came to mind was writing. I have always had a passion for writing and I thought that it would be really nice to turn that into something that other people could gain knowledge from.
“I wanted to make writing accessible to all; to let them know that it is something that they are capable of doing, no matter how old or how young they may be"
Writing can seem like a challenge to many, and this is why I wanted to create this podcast to show people that "hey, you can do it too!"
My Internship With ARTS By The People
During the creation of the podcast, I had been interning at a non-profit organization called ARTS By The People. The organization aims to make the arts accessible to all kinds of people ranging from old to young. My supervisor, Paul Rabinowitz is a distinguished poet, author, and director who I looked up to greatly, and I thought that with all of his amazing experience he would have a lot to offer to the podcast.
During The Interview
Paul, my feature on the first episode of Harness Your Pen was a pleasure to interview and I appreciated that he shared hi s many experiences with myself as well as the audience. It was easy to talk to him and the conversation had a nice flow to it throughout the interview. I was able to get to know a little bit about his writing life and how that might not always look as great as it seems to be.
The Editing Process
I really did enjoy putting the podcast together using all kinds of creative ideas that I had stored in my brain. Certainly, cutting the audio and removing unnecessary words and breaths were a bit tedious, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless! Looking at the editing process now after having gone through it, I can definitely see how a lot of work goes into the creation of just a single episode of a podcast. I was super delighted to learn new ways and shortcuts to get certain tasks done on the adobe software.
Overall
The experience was a 10/10 and I would happily do it all over again! Having the opportunity to create my own podcast with my own ideas was such a joy to have considering that not a lot of professors allow that. I was extremely happy to have had some connections through my internship and my podcast so that I could bring quality to my podcast just in the first episode. The editing experience was enjoyable as well as I was able to learn a brand new software that I had never touched before. I would love to have taken another class like this in the spring!
